Are you learning WordPress? Do you use WordPress regularly as a developer? Let me know in the comments what you think about WordPress!

The problems with WordPress is that
A – making too customised is tough
B – Today's free plugin might become tomorrow's paid plugin. Today's supported plugin might become unsupported tommorrow.
C – sometimes really good stuffs on wordpress can be too costly and as a beginner you make website to make money, not pay money. So paying instead of making money as a not earning person sucks.
D – You don't learn anything. And sometimes you have to use custom coding anyways. So why not learn code in the first place ?
There maybe other problems as well which I didn't mentioned here.

I started on WordPress and learned js and php.

Could you make a video about how to make a resume for a software engineering position (especially for those who don’t have a CS degree/ didn’t go to a bootcamp). Did employers care/treat you differently because you were self taught? Thank you. I love your content.

Hey Dorian! i posted on your last wordpress video. and i thought to try and learn it and make some side money with it while i'm learning to code. so i did some research and then tried to help my friend make a portfolio website for his architecture "buissnes" i discovered that i also have to learn design so also took abit of time to do that. and then i saw how much time it takes out of me and how long will it take till i will start making money out of it so i actually stopped with wordpress and got back to learning javascript just that this time i have to go abit back cause i didnt remember it all.

WordPress is the reason I got my first dev job!

This is how you confuse people. You should have research first before telling us to not learning WP. this is insane man! I was about to learn WP when I started, But then I change my mind after watching your video "learning WP is waste of time, blah blah blah"… If you cannot guide us properly, then please don't mislead us. we trust you!

I'm kinda torn because on one hand I wanna learn WordPress since so many job listings seem to require it but on the other hand I don't wanna get stuck being a WordPress developer.

Get well soon bro .

This is weird. Been learning web dev for a year now in my spare time. Mainly React and Next JS. I avoided WP like the plague and never used it. I wanted to do freelance work and originally planned to work in Next JS and Node but the logistics of getting clients hosting and managing the site plus the time spent building it were ridiculous.
I decided to learn WP a week ago and I'm loving it. I'm picking up the concepts quickly because of my previous experience and it is so much better for clients to work with.

Hey Dorian what knee injury are you suffering from?
I just had surgery roughly 1 week ago for a patella tendon rupture and ive had to stop learning to code for now (TOP, Self Taught), due to rest. Once i'm feeling better and can concentrate a bit more, I will pick up where I came from before my injury.
Stay Safe! 🙂

This is exactly what I needed to hear Dorian 😆 thanks!

Hey Dorian, great vid. I currently know html, css at a basic level still wrapping my head around JS, if I had to jump onto WordPress to perhaps freelance would you say it’s wise or Should I learn JS abit more then jump onto WordPress?
Charlie George
I really don't understand where this whole "WordPress Developer" dichotomy came from where "the real devs" call anyone who works with WordPress a phony or not a real dev. WordPress is just a tool – like the browser itself! Just because the backend is all sorted for you, doesn't mean WordPress devs don't use JS, or jQuery, or React, or any of the other languages that "the real devs" use. I just don't get the need to put "WordPress Developer" in quote marks. It's ridiculous.

WordPress seems fun, but I feel like I will be stuck with making pages with WordPress instead of actually learning HTML/CSS. I want to build some pages with vanilla HTML/CSS before I start to use tools like this.

I think WordPress is not that hard to learn. I've been building and maintaining WP sites for a few years now. Recently, just started learning how to code.

Good to see you on again Dorian!
Hope the recovery goes well.

I see plenty of job postings asking for wordpress. I gave up on a bootcamp last year and am currently refreshing my mind in html css and js(and now i am actually getting it) and I will learn wordpress right after as i want to code my own blog to use for my portfolio and revenue. And move on to other skills. Your story always keeps me motivated Dorian

WordPress is actually a great platform, especially if you're a freelancer, it'll make your life much easier
